In May 2007 Leicester bucked the national trend and re-installed Labour as leaders of the City Council. Little wonder after the bizarre behaviour of the Lib Dems/Libs who seemed far more interested in their personal CVs than in using their power for the benefit of the city.

However, it no longer makes much difference who is elected in Leicester because all of the money that comes into the city is effectively spent by that little known, and mostly self-selected quango, Leicester Strategic Partnership.

This consists of a very large talking shop that meets twice a year. The press does not bother to attend because it is so boring. The members rubber stamp proposals presented by the executive which consists of 14 people - mostly self selected and including no black or Asian people. Their meetings are not open to the press or the public. The executive select proposals that originate from a myriad of small committes whose members are unknown; how they were chosen and by whom is unknown - and what relation they have with each other or Leicester is unknown.

Your elected representatives rubber stamp proposals from the partnership and mostly have no idea where the proposals came from, or why, Thus they do not have to think at all, so it really does not matter who they are.
