Leicester City Council have decided to take action against Leicester's Other Website.  Their claim is that internet users may be misled into thinking that www.leicestercitycouncil.co.uk is an LCC official site.  

After logging into Leicester's Other Website for some weeks the council finally wrote to the names regulatory body Nominet.  The objective of this action is to ultimately remove the registration of www.leicestercitycouncil.co.uk from LOW ownership.

The aim of this website is to cover issues relating to Leicester City Council. LCC is our theme.  LCC claim "... that the use of this domain name may lead to confusion among users of the internet about the status of this site."

Nominet's 'Rules for .uk and its subdomains' state that "Nominet UK may cancel a registration or suspend delegation of a name if it is drawn to NOMINET UK's attention that the name is being used in a manner likely to cause confusion to internet users." LOW does not believe that the name is being used in a manner likely to cause confusion to internet users. 

LCC state that they wish "... to encourage free and open debate about Leicester affairs."
Odd then that this council refused to talk to Leicester's Other Paper after its first issue in 1994... just because we happened to reveal a few details about council pension cash wrapped-up in the arms trade.  Odd then that they closed down the Highfields Active Residents' Centre... which just happened to donate free office space to LOP.  Odd, perhaps, then... that they should now try and silence us just because our address is: www.leicestercitycouncil.co.uk
